Changing Landscapes transformed a steep, overgrown backyard in the Boulder Foothills into a safe, functional outdoor retreat that blends seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The design created a family-friendly space for play and relaxation, featuring a pool and spa, bluegrass lawn, gardens, and a flagstone patio with sweeping panoramic views.

One of the primary challenges was managing stormwater runoff from the foothills. An extensive drainage system—including French drains, slot and trench drains, and dry stream beds—was carefully integrated to protect the property while maintaining a natural aesthetic. Moss rock boulders, Salida stone, and native plantings were used throughout to complement the existing landscape, resulting in a sustainable, beautiful outdoor environment that fully realized the client’s vision.
